IG Mini Quilt – The Great Reveal!
I cannot wait anymore to share my IG Mini Quilt! (IG is short for Instagram.) I signed up for the IG Mini Quilt swap back in August. There are over 500 quilters in the swap so we were divided up into groups. Each group has a “swap mama” who keeps track of everyone and makes sure we are all keeping our promises to sew and send our mini quilts on time. I am in Kay’s group.
I sent my quilt out last week but I don’t think my partner has received it yet. I am almost positive that he is not following my blog though so I am going to share my mini here even before it is seen on Instagram! So you blog readers get the sneak peek! If you think you might be my partner and you are reading this you might want to look away if you don’t want your surprise to be spoiled.
Okay, so here it is!
IG Mini Quilt “Gasoline Rainbow” designed, pieced and quilted by Anita LaHay of Daydreams of Quilts. |
My partner said he (yes, he is a man – that was exciting and a different aspect to the challenge in itself!) likes dark vibrant colours and things inspired by nature. Originally I was going to have the pebble shapes make a winding pathway on the quilt. Then one rainy day I was watching water bead on my deck and make pebble shapes. Then I got to thinking about how water beads on gas and oil spills on pavement and makes rainbows. That is when I decided to make my quilt a gasoline rainbow. I found this photo on a Google search and used that as my inspiration for where to place my colours.

Some of you saw this image on a WIP Wednesday post a few weeks back and you thought I was crazy… but now you can see where I was going with this. 🙂 |

This looks fantastic. I am sure your partner will love it
It turned out really beautifully! You did a fantastic job with that.
OMG!!! I love the mug rug you created, it is beautiful!! I would love to make one similarly for my DH… If only I had that many solid colours, I just might have to wing it another way! Thanks for inspiring me!!!
It is fantastic. With the black I between the colored pebbles it really makes them look real and 3D. The color order is wonderful. Really cool.
This is SO fabulous! I just love everything about it! Your partner will be SO excited!
Funny story: I actually had a dream last night that I received a IG mini quilt swap quilt and goodies in the mail, and totally panicked since I didn't sign up for the swap and didn't make OR send a quilt. Maybe I'm getting nervous about the completion of the Schnitzel and Boo quilt? It's my first swap. In fact, I'll go make a bit of progress on that until my son wakes from his nap. Gorgeous quilt!
Wow! That's inspired Anita. Love it!
What a wonderful job you did. I looked at where you found the inspiration and you sure did the picture justice. Michael will love it!
Dang it!!! Why did I not sign up for this swap??!!
This quilt is a real stunner. Wow!! I hope you put it in your webpage banner, cause everyone will want to see it. I love how these swaps encourage our creativity. Yours is wonderful!! XX!
Wow it's gorgeous! Great job! I thought of those rainbow looking oil marks before you mentioned it!
I haven't sent my swap mini yet; I need to stitch the label down and take photos still. Should really do that today since I've only got a couple of days left for sending lol oops!
wow Anita that is just amazing 🙂
Your mini is so fabulous! I'm sure he will love it!
