Eco-friendly Reusable Gift Bags At Daydreams of Quilts

reusable drawstring fabric gift bags

This year I have worked to incorporate eco-friendly solutions into my shop both in the products I have made and the materials I have used. One of the new products this year is the Reusable Drawstring Fabric Gift Bags.

Reusable drawstring fabric gift bags at Daydreams of Quilts. Fabrics are “Kringle and Claus” by Basic Grey.

Kringle and Clause drawstring bags are available here at Daydreams of Quilts. The darker version with buffalo plaid trim can be found here.

These bags have been very popular and have been selling since July! The bags below this paragraph made with “Wintertide” from Figo Fabrics have sold out twice! Wintertide fabrics are available at Studio 39 Fabrics.

Wintertide bags are available here while supplies last.

If you want to make your own bags you can find a tutorial on the “In Color Order” blog by Jeni Baker. If you don’t have time (or run out of time) there are 15 listings to choose from in our shop.

Here are some farmhouse style gift bags. Only three available.

And the ever popular red Christmas truck motif. Also only three available. We also have coordinating throw pillow covers and stockings with this same motif.

And one more new thing for this year in our shop are personalized Santa Sacks and Mini Santa sacks found in the fabric gift bags section of our shop. I hope we can help to reduce gift wrap going into landfills and save our customers money down the road with these reusable options. I have had a lot of fun putting together fabric combinations for bags and making all of them.

Holiday Lodge Christmas throw quilt by Daydreams of Quilts

This is second Holiday Lodge throw quilt that I finished last week. You can see the first one (the light version) in this post.

This quilt uses a Holiday Lodge panel as well as some of the fabrics from the “Holiday Lodge” line by Deb Strain for Moda Fabrics. I have added in fabrics from Tula Pink’s “Holiday Homies”, Basic Grey’s “Evergreen”, Kate and Birdie’s “True North” and other fabrics from my stash. There are also Kona snow and Kona black solids. The Holiday Lodge fabrics were purchased from Funky Monkey Fabrics and Thread Count Fabrics.

The Holiday Lodge quilt is available here in the Daydreams of Quilts Etsy shop.

We did actually get some snow here the day before this photo was taken which would have been nice for photos but I’m not sad that it melted quickly.

These fabrics fit in perfectly with the farmhouse decor trend. They make me wish I could spend Christmas in a cozy cabin in the mountains.

I quilted this quilt with various custom quilting motifs including stippling, wishbones, straight lines and loop-de-loops around the plaid bears, trees and stags. The border is quilted with feathers.

The black shooting star fabric as the background for the trees is a Figo Fabrics print from Studio 39 Fabrics.

The dark wood grain fabrics are what really make this quilt! The wood grain background on the bows is a Northcott fabric.
The back of the quilt is red and black buffalo plaid.

The present block is from Thimble Blossoms “Handmade with Love” pattern. The ornament block is from Thimble Blossoms “Vintage Holiday” pattern.

Black and White Animals with Rainbows Child’s Quilt

Black and white animals with rainbows child's quilt.

I bought these adorable animal panels and the white border from Funky Monkey Fabrics in the summer when they had a sale on Dear Stella fabrics. I didn’t have a real plan for them other than I thought I might make pillow covers with them.

Then I thought I would like to make a kid’s quilt with them but needed to add to the panels to make it bigger. I collected fabrics in rainbow colours from my scrap bins and cut the panel in half. Then I added the strips of rainbows. I then added the coordinating white border. I felt the quilt should still be a bit bigger as I was thinking it could be for a toddler bed so I ordered the black border and the binding from Thread Count Fabrics. This quilt is 45″ x 51.5″.

The black fabric has a white print of mountains on it and the binding has sticks. So cute! This quilt would be lovely for a family who loves camping or spending time in nature. It’s perfect for my own family actually. 🙂

The animal panels are adorable and they all have virtues. I quilted around them in stipple quilting with variegated rainbow thread in 80 weight from Aurifil.

The llama panel says "Be Silly"
The ever popular llama.

This was a fun quilt to make and a great one for using up scraps. This quilt is available in my Etsy shop.

Rainbow Hot Air Balloon Panel Quilt

My Rainbow Hot Air Balloon panel that I designed for the Cheater Quilt Panel challenge on Spoonflower has arrived. I have it all quilted and bound now.

This baby quilt is available in my Etsy shop and the panel is available in my Spoonflower shop if you want to make your own.

Having the grid lines printed on the panel makes it so easy to quilt this modern quilt in an equally modern grid. The only spot that’s a bit tricky is the white part of the heart. I wobbled a bit but you can’t tell right? 🙂

It’s a lovely September fall day for quilt photos. The rainbow really pops in the shade of the trees.
This is the backing and binding. I used a gradient chartreuse from Cotton and Steel for the binding that worked out very well. The backing is a Flourish print from Windham Fabrics.
A closer look at the quilting. It’s so easy to quilt this quilt with a walking foot.

Thank you for checking out my fun modern quilt today! I hope your day is going great!

Who knew so many people love handmade pillow cases?

Handmade Pillow Cases

This pillow case post was the most popular post in a long time on both Instagram and Facebook. It’s not the most beautiful photo but the fabrics are beautiful and I think maybe the story behind it really resonated with people. So in case you missed my posts (or you’re not on those social media platforms) I am posting here on my blog as well.

handmade pillow cases
Handmade pillow cases I made for my Mom using Flourish fabrics.

The caption of the post said, “My Mom is my best customer and she ordered some#flourishfabrics from my shop. When I went to deliver them she handed them back and said she would like them made into pillow cases. This is a special service I provide free of charge to customers who gave birth to me. 😂 All of these fabrics designed by #miawhittemore are available in our shop. #windhamfabrics “

I think the caption hit home with a lot of people but also the look of the pretty floral pillowcases in bright colours hanging on the line.

How I made them:

To make these pillow cases I used this tutorial . I used French seams to ensure there is no fraying inside the pillow case. To do this I sewed the end and side seams of the pillow case with the fabric right side out with about an eighth of an inch seam. Then I turned the pillow case wrong side out and pressed the seams. I sewed the seams again using a quarter inch seam. Then turned the pillow case right side out again and pressed the seams again.

For the band I folded one long edge of the band down by a quarter inch and pressed the fold. I sewed the two short ends together with a 5/8 seam and then pressed the seam open. Then I pinned the band to the pillow case right sides together matching the side seams. I sewed that seam with a 1/4 inch seam and pressed towards the band. Then I folded the other long (folded) edge up to just cover that seam and pinned in place. I top stitched that folded edge in place which enclosed all the raw edges. This ensures the pillow case will not fray.

You can find all the fabrics I used in my shop.

I am thinking I will use Sugarplum fabrics to make Christmas pillow cases and will possibly even offer some pillow cases for sale this fall.
