Hidden Zig Zag Quilt Pattern Release

Hidden Zig Zag charm square quilt

The Hidden Zig Zag Quilt pattern is finally out in the world! I started this pattern a year ago but hit a few road blocks that I’ll tell you about below. I am so happy with my finished quilt though. It has pride of place on my bed.

This is a charm square quilt that uses three charm packs. It’s called “Hidden Zig Zag” because you don’t see the zig zag until the end when the quilt top is put together.

The Hidden Zig Zag Quilt is available on our website, Etsy and Craftsy and is 50% off through Sunday.

This quilt is more challenging than my Pixel Heart Quilts. I had it basted and ready to quilt last summer and then I made a complete mess of the quilting. I tried to quilt the colourful triangles with curves on each edge. I don’t know how quilters do that. They must use curved rulers because mine looked terrible free hand.

I don’t know why I didn’t quit after the first few but I kept going until I had quilted almost every coloured triangle. I think I thought it would get better as I went along. It didn’t. It looked awful. So then I was faced with the task of ripping out all the quilting. The quilt sat. Then I ripped out about half the quilting. And the quilt sat.

Finally I finished ripping out the quilting in January but in the process I also accidentally sliced a one inch hole in the backing with my seam ripper.  🙁 I was so upset.  So the quilt sat some more. Finally on Monday I looked at this quilt and decided that this week was the week this quilt was getting finished.

It had sat for so long that it was dusty and had dog fur on it so I had to lint roll it first. Then I set to work creating feathers in all the zig zags. I am happy with this quilt now but what a struggle I had with this one!

I quilted all the white background fabrics and left the coloured fabrics alone. This was the first time I have ever ripped out the quilting on a quilt but my final choice was a good one.

This quilt is made with all Fig Tree fabrics including “Farmhouse”, “Strawberry Fields” and “Strawberry Fields Revsited”. I love it and I’m thrilled to finally have it washed and on my bed!

On another note: Just a quick heads up that our quilt pattern prices on individual patterns are increasing from $10 a pattern to $12 a pattern on June 21st so if you’ve had your eye on some you may wish to pick them up before the price goes up.

American Flag Heart Quilt and PDF Pattern

American Flag Heart Quilt Pixelated Heart

I’ve had the idea for this American Flag Heart Quilt for a few months and yesterday I decided I better hurry up and make it or it would be the Fourth of July and quilters wouldn’t have time to make it until next year.

American Flag Heart Quilt Pixelated Heart
American Flag Heart Quilt made with strips. It is also possible to make it as a scrappy pixleated heart quilt.

I cut it out yesterday at lunch. Pieced it yesterday afternoon and quilted and bound it this morning. And in between I wrote a pattern. So you can probably tell that this is a quick and easy quilt to make.

I quilted it with wavy lines to make it like a flag flying in the wind. I think this would be perfect to spread out on the grass for a fourth of July picnic and fireworks.

I had the fabrics left from a custom order for an American Flag quilt and you know me and my love for heart quilts…

My three kids came to help me hold up the quilt. They are very helpful most of the time. 🙂

This quilt is for sale on our website and Etsy.

American Flag Heart Quilt Pattern

The pattern to make this quilt is available on our Website, Craftsy and Etsy.

This American Flag Heart Quilt pattern is easy and quick to make. You can make it with strips of fabric for a really quick finish or you can make a scrappy patchwork pixelated heart quilt. Cutting and sewing instructions for both options are included in the pattern.

This pattern makes a 75″ x 65″ quilt. To make it 75″ square just add and extra background strip to the top and bottom of the quilt.

The PDF pattern is six pages long and includes computer generated cutting and piecing diagrams with written instructions. There are also binding diagrams and instructions for finishing your quilt.

Happy Quilting!
